New BIIAB Award Provides Universal Quality Hallmark
08-Apr-2008
BIIAB, the dedicated awarding body for the licensed retail sector, has launched a new qualification to set a national quality standard for the assessment of all recognised social responsibility award schemes in
The Level 2 Award in Assessment of Licensed Premises (Social Responsibility) (AALP(SR)) has been developed in conjunction with Best Bar None and aims to provide assessors with the knowledge and information they need to adopt a consistent approach to whichever scheme they are operating under.
The BIIAB AALP(SR) is designed for prospective recognised award scheme assessors from organisations such as police forces, local authorities, trading standards offices and the fire service, plus other A1 qualified independent representatives.
Three key subject areas are covered by the AALP(SR): Principles of Assessment; Legislative Requirements of Licensed Premises; and Assessing Recognised Award Schemes. The qualification has been designed to be delivered in two days, in the context of the recognised award scheme for the local area. It is supported by an easy to follow handbook, which contains information on all three key areas, and is assessed by two multiple choice examinations*.
The BIIAB AALP(SR) has received QCA accreditation at Level 2, which means successful candidates will receive a nationally recognised certificate. The first candidates to go through the training were from Birmingham City Council and West Midlands Police, and all eleven passed with flying colours.
Candidate Ann Hyland, Birmingham Best Bar None Project Officer, commented: “I found the course extremely interesting and informative, not to mention enjoyable. With little previous knowledge of the licensed trade and associated legislation, I felt that the course content was relevant and provided me with the basic tools required to carry out an assessment of a licensed premises."
Trudi Stevens of Green Lantern Training Company in Melksham, Wiltshire, who delivered the course to the first group of candidates after it had been piloted, added: “This course is not only extremely important for best practice scheme assessors, it will actually prove invaluable to licensing officers in general as they can gain a deeper understanding of how to assess licensed premises, taking all parameters into account.”
BIIAB is wholly owned by BII, the professional body for the licensed retail sector. BIIAB qualifications are delivered through 600 approved centres operating in over 6,000 locations throughout the
*Anyone holding an A1 or A2 Assessor qualification may be exempt from one unit of assessment.
