Long-Awaited Cellar Service Qualification Launched by BIIAB

06-Jun-2008

BIIAB has launched the long-awaited Level 2 National Certificate for Cellar Service Installation and Maintenance (NCCSIM). The qualification has been developed in conjunction with the Brewing, Food & Beverage Industry Suppliers Association (BFBi) and fills a gap in the market for a quality hallmark for suitably qualified engineers.

The NCCSIM now becomes the recognised quality minimum standard in this specialist field. It covers five key subject areas:

The qualification has been designed to be delivered in five one-day modules and each unit is assessed by a multiple-choice exam. Successful candidates receive an individual certificate for each unit passed and an over-arching BIIAB NCCSIM certificate upon completion of all five units. Candidates will be expected to gain practical experience as well as passing the exam.

Ruth Evans, chief executive of the BFBi commented: "BFBi, together with Learning & Skills Council, is developing a framework of professional, nationally recognised, training and accreditation for cellar service engineers in order to ensure safety and best practice within the sector. As well as initiating an industry route to funding, we are coordinating the national provision of training to ensure an efficient and cost effective delivery. We recognised the breadth and depth of training provided by BIIAB and are delighted to be working in partnership in order to ensure a structured career pathway."

The NCCSIM is available through BIIAB approved training centres, all of which have the necessary equipment and suitably qualified tutors to ensure candidates receive the tuition they need in this specialist field.

To find your nearest approved centre, go to www.biiab.org or call BIIAB’s QA department on 01276 684449. For more information on the NCCSIM, click here.

The NCCSIM complements the BIIAB Award in Beer and Cellar Quality (ABCQ), which is designed to help licensees ensure their beer is consistently served in an optimum condition. The ABCQ can be used as a stand-alone qualification or as part of an induction programme for new licensees. The Award is aimed at licensees and bar staff required to handle and care for cask and/or keg beers - as well as anyone required to maintain a safe and hygienic cellar.
