Lucky Hand For New BIIAB Gambling Qualification
12-Sep-2008
Licensing police officers and local authority licensing officers who process applications and conduct enforcement activities under the Gambling Act 2005, will benefit from taking a new qualification launched by BIIAB, the leading awarding body for the licensed retail industry. The Level 2 National Certificate for Licensing Practitioners (Gambling) (NCLP(G)) is available now through BIIAB approved centres across the UK.
As with all BIIAB qualifications, the Level 2 NCLP(G) has been intensely piloted in conjunction with key industry practitioners to ensure it is clear, accurate and fit for purpose. The course gives candidates a broad appreciation of gambling, the licensing objectives, licensing authority duties and the Gambling Commission’s guidance under the Act. They will also come away with a more in depth understanding of the law in relation to:
-
Operating and personal licences
-
Premises licences including applications, reviews and hearings
-
Club and pub permits
The Level 2 NCLP(G) qualification is supported by a handbook, which is written in an easy-to-follow format and covers all the areas of information needed to pass the exam, plus other useful reference information. Candidates who successfully pass the multiple choice examination at the end of the day’s training receive a nationally recognised QCA accredited qualification certificate, awarded by BIIAB.
Well known licensing solicitors Poppleston Allen were one of the approved centres to host pilot courses and solicitor Nick Arron was heavily involved in redrafting the workbook following the first round of pilot courses. Nick commented: “This course provides much needed clarity for police and local authority licensing officers who will have to interpret the requirements of the new Act in every day situations. It will improve their performance and boost overall confidence when dealing with applications, enforcement or general queries."
All BIIAB courses are delivered through a UK-wide network of approved centres and training costs vary according to each individual centre.
