Extension to Level 5 Higher Apprenticeship in Care Leadership and Management (SASE) England Framework and the BIIAB Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People's Services (England)

We have received confirmation from Skills for Care about an extension to the current Level 5 Higher Apprenticeship in Care Leadership and Management (SASE) in England. The SASE framework will remain open to learners for registrations until 31 December 2019.  BIIAB have extended the BIIAB Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People's Services (England) until 31 December 2019.

The new Apprenticeship Standard for Leader in Adult Care is expected to be approved for delivery later this year once the assessment plan has been approved by the Institute for Apprenticeships.  The new Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management in Adult Care will be the mandatory qualification within the new Apprenticeship Standard.  The BIIAB Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management in Adult Care will be available for registration on 1 September 2018.

Please note that for the immediate future, only the current Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People's Services (England) is mandatory for apprentices.  As such, we recommend that centres continue to register all learners on the current Diploma and SASE apprenticeship framework until the new apprenticeship standard is approved.

The current and new apprenticeships and qualifications will run side by side for a period of time to allow centres and learners to choose between the different options.

For confirmation, please see the Skills for Care announcement here.
